by Alex Stram

Inspired by memories of fishing with his grandfather as a child, Alex created this stunningly realistic look at our native fish population in Wisconsin. Drawn to this project based on his interest in natural sciences and land stewardship, Alex blended drawing and watercolor style painting to create this piece of art.
Primarily an artist working in sculpture, Alex’s drawing style tends to use pen and colored pencil with an intense level of detail. Combining his passions for creating art and natural sciences is a common theme in his work. Many of his pieces feature imaginative, unsettling creatures that don’t quite exist, creating a sense of unfamiliar-familiarity.
Alex was a junior at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) studying New Studio Practice when he designed and painted this bench in Spring 2024.
