Community Garden Clubs are a unique implementation of community gardens where members are required to attend weekly club meetings staffed by social workers specially trained in Trauma Informed Care. Club meeting focus on skill development and community building using activities to:
- Enhance communication skills
- Identify, understand and manage emotions
- Build positive self-esteem
- Enhance problem-solving skills through teamwork and critical thinking
BloomMKE provides the following means of support:
- Direct funding for construction, maintenance, garden tools and plants/seeds for community gardens
- Direct funding for social workers, materials used in club meetings and market-day supplies member purchase with “points” awarded during meetings for positive contributions
- Coordination of volunteer programs to aid in construction, planting, and maintenance
- Educational and enrichment programs at garden sites
