by Chad Alexander Matha

Created by Chad Alexander Matha, the flower garden mural welcomes visitors who enter from the west side of Cherry Street Garden. Chad blends the garden’s mission with his artistic esthetic of collage and harmonizing many ideas together. After creating the design digitally, Chad cut stencils so the mural could be painted by members of the garden community.
Chad Alexander Matha was a junior in the New Studio Practice program at Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) when he created this artwork in Spring 2023. Chad aspires to start his own business upcycling textile goods after graduation.

High school students from the PEAK Initiative’s Leaders in Training program helped BloomMKE paint the mural.
In the Fall of 2022, this team also led visioning sessions with the gardeners that helped the MIAD and UWM students understand the garden, gardeners and community. Click here to see the History Harvest and community input collected by the PEAK LTs.
