Young Farmers

BloomMKE is partnering with Groundwork Milwaukee to offer the Young Farmers program at the Cherry Street Community Garden for the Summer 2020 season.

The Young Farmers program provides 25 hours of healthy eating educational activities for youth ages 10 to 14.  Education activities focus on growing, preparing and preserving fresh garden vegetables.

Activities include:

  • Learning about seeds, soil, water and other aspects of growing vegetables
  • Participating in watering and weeding activities in the garden
  • Harvesting vegetables and learning preparation methods
  • Learning ways to preserve fresh vegetables for enjoyment after the growing season

Instruction provided by BloomMKE staff and GROUNDWORK Milwaukee program coordinator. 

Programming runs June 24 through August 29, meeting on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9:30 – 11:00 am.  (Wednesday sessions will end Aug. 12th or based on local school schedules.)

Young Farmers program is free!

Every child who completes the program will receive $150 for back-to-school supplies
